(Ms) Hitomi Takemura has been a professor of international law at the Graduate School of Law and the School of International and Public Policy (IPP) of Hitotsubashi University, Tokyo, Japan. She had been an associate professor of Department of International and Cultural Studies, School of Foreign Studies, Aichi Prefectural University from October 2012 till March 2016. Previously, she worked for Kyushu International University, Fukuoka, Japan for 4.5 years. She received her Ph.D. at the Irish Centre for Human Rights, National University of Ireland, Galway in June 2008. The thesis was published by Springer as a book entitled International Human Right to Conscientious Objection to Military Service and Individual Duties to Disobey Manifestly Illegal Orders later in 2008. She also has an LL.M. in public international law and international criminal law specialization from Leiden University, Netherlands, and an LL.M. in international law from Hitotsubashi University, Tokyo, Japan. Her recent research interests include the prosecutorial discretion of international criminal justice and indicators of legitimacy of international law and international criminal justice.
