Research trip to Europe

My latest article in Japanese on the International Criminal Court (ICC) was recently published in a monthly journal issued by the Japan Institute of International Affairs. The work is titled “Law and Politics Surrounding the Duty to Cooperate towards the ICC,” though it is not timely enough to address the authorization of the opening of an investigation of Myanmar by the Pre-Trial Chamber III of the ICC. I visited Europe from 9 to 17 November, and I was lucky to witness the hearing of the appeal of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi before the ICC on 12 November 2019 at the Hague, the Netherlands. A highlight of my trip was that I was honored to deliver one of the keynote speeches at the international conference of DECRET at George Bacovia University of Bacău, Romania, on 14 November 2019. On 15 November, I had a chance to visit the National Correctional Officers Training School in Târgu Ocna in order to continue attending the remainder of the DECRET conference. The director of the school kindly gave me a certificate, as I was told I was the first Japanese to visit the institution. I am very grateful to the director of the Training School and the faculty of George Bacovia University of Bacău. Thank you so much to everybody who made time to see me during the trip.
